Not too far from the Gila River Indian Reservation in Maricopa, Arizona, just about in the center of the Sonoran Desert, a grey colt was dropped by the bay mare, Sonoita Little Kavy, #29319, in 1960. ....This little grey colt was sired by Rancho Dick, #72083, a 1955 son of Rey Del Rancho, #7340. He was destined to shake the known performance world and leave a huge wake for others to follow. Rancho Dick's mama was a mare called La Estilla, #27108, a chestnut 1942 model by Peppy Jr, #360. Peppy Jr, himself, had 10 performers from 164 foals. And considering the time, that was an appreciable bit of achievement. They called him Dick Sonoita and he was bred by C.P. Honeycutt. .......
